How to calculate what you need on your final
Your overall grade is your current grade for everything except the final, plus the final itself, each weighted by how much it counts. To solve for the score you need:
required = (target − current × (1 − final_weight)) ÷ final_weight
where final_weight is a decimal (a 20% final is 0.20). Example: with an 88%
current grade, a 90% target, and a 20% final, you need (0.90 − 0.88 × 0.80) ÷ 0.20 = 98%.
